Window Seat Fun

I still love to fly. I don’t care for all the procedural stuff immediately before and after the flight. I just love the flying part. It’s especially enjoyable when a window is involved.

On my last flight home from Tokyo, I kept the M11-P paired with a 35mm Summicron V4 with me at my seat. I decided not to pack it in the carry-on. I challenged myself to create a photo essay of the journey home through the window. My goal was to immerse the viewer in my experience. So, I left a little bit, or sometimes all, of the window frame in the scene.

The story begins from the push-back from our gate at Henada International Airport (HND) and ends with touchdown at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA).

Push-back from our gate at Haneda.
A couple of American Airlines planes, one parked and one rolling out for take-off.
Waiting for departure clearance on 34R as an ANA flight comes in for landing.
Just a quick peek down the runway as the Dreamliner lines up.
We are rolling. Tears on the window as I leave Tokyo?
Ahhhh… What a beautiful send-off from Tokyo Tower.
The last bits of the sun.
Mt. Rainier, the first visual sign of home.
It looks like we made it back home to Seattle.

Thanks for joining me on this flight back home from Tokyo.

  1. Bravo! Excellent essay. I loved seeing these great photos through the window. Truly wonderful. And yes, always tears leaving Tokyo.
